  14. <p>    DIED. Dorothy Kirsten, 82, renowned and durable operatic
  15. soprano; in Los Angeles. She began singing on radio in the 1930s
  16. with the Kate Smith Chorus and later studied voice in Rome with
  17. Astolfo Pescia. She made her operatic debut with the Chicago
  18. Opera in Manon in 1940, and in 1945 she appeared in La Boheme
  19. with New York City's Metropolitan Opera, where she remained for
  20. 30 years. An able actress, she appeared in The Great Caruso and
  21. other films.
