- <p> DIED. Dorothy Kirsten, 82, renowned and durable operatic
- soprano; in Los Angeles. She began singing on radio in the 1930s
- with the Kate Smith Chorus and later studied voice in Rome with
- Astolfo Pescia. She made her operatic debut with the Chicago
- Opera in Manon in 1940, and in 1945 she appeared in La Boheme
- with New York City's Metropolitan Opera, where she remained for
- 30 years. An able actress, she appeared in The Great Caruso and
- other films.
